LIGHTS OUT by David F. Sandberg

The Plot: A family is haunted by a dark specter that can only been seen when the lights are out. In order to save her little brother, Rebecca tries to discover the truth behind the evil entity that wishes to kill them.

The cast: Teresa Palmer convinces as the not very emotional Rebecca and Maria Bello is excellent as her mother. As the young brother, Gabriel Bateman fails to look scared and looks like someone who doesn’t believe in nothing that is happening. On the other hand, Alexander DiPersia (Rebecca’s friend) looks really scared.

The Movie: Inspired by the hit short film by the same director, David F. Sandberg, we have here a true horror winner. The idea is simple, we are all afraid of the dark, and is executed by Sandberg with a true sense of creepiness and fear. With chilling sounds effects, a truly dark atmosphere, enough suspense and a terrifying entity, this is one of the scariest movies I have seen in the last years. As for the entity, Sandberg choses never to show it in all her glory and that works perfectly; believe me, it’s the stuff that can give you nightmares. I enjoyed the fact that Sandberg managed to put basically his short film and with the same actress in the context of this movie and it works. If you love horror movies this one is for you!

My Rate: 8 (from 1 to 10)
